It’s Show Time!

Your roses are loaded with buds and within the next 4 weeks your bushes will be bursting with blooms.  This will be their showiest time of year.  Your roses are hungry.  Time to feed them with both some type of organic fertilizer, like Espoma Rose Tone, or Mills Magic Mix, or Dr Earth’s Rose & Flower mix, with some type of slow release chemical fertilizer like Expert Gardener, Osmocote, Scott’s Rose Food, etc.   Organic fertilizers only last about 6 weeks, the slow release fertilizers will last several months depending on the formula (read the label).

For amazing results, use a water soluble fertilizer now and repeat every two weeks with a weaker concentration of your rose food.  For example, if you use Miracle-Gro concentrated food, instead of using one tablespoon per gallon, use 1 1/2 teaspoons per gallon and fertilize your roses more frequently, versus the one month recommendation.  This task will be especially helpful for your roses that need a boost.  Also adding something like Senn’s Sennsational Seaumic will improve root growth and improve soil structure by helping with the availability of phosphorous.
