This time of year our rose bushes show out and bountifully produce blooms in vibrant colors. They are a delight to our eyes. Although you can still cut blooms for your home, don’t do any major pruning cutbacks. No high nitrogen fertilizing now as it will stimulate growth that will be damaged by coming late fall frosts. It is acceptable to apply something with higher potassium.
Let your roses bloom, then pull off the petals. Any hips that form signal our roses that it is time to get ready for dormancy. Next post will talk about pruning very tall roses before winter sets in.
